CALL FOR PROPOSALS, AEA 2004, Atlanta, GA

“Beginning Evaluators: What are they doing now? Where are they heading?”

The purpose of this session will be twofold. First, it will be an opportunity for beginning evaluators to display their current work in evaluation and to share how they believe it will contribute to the evaluation community . Second, it will provide an opportunity for beginning evaluators to hone presentation and oral defense skills.

In addition to this sponsored session, we are also seeking other submissions, which address the professional development needs of beginning evaluators. Topics such as opportunities in evaluation , development of reflexive practice, and connecting beginning and prominent evaluators on a variety of topics are appropriate examples.

The Graduate Student and New Evaluator’s TIG, founded in February 2000, seeks to accomplish a number of objectives relating to graduate students and new evaluators. The purpose of the TIG is to develop activities for, and represent the interests of, AEA members who are completing graduate degrees or new to the field . The intent is to foster communication and networking between graduate students, new evaluators, faculty, recent post-graduates, potential employers, and other AEA members who wish to support this cause . It is believed these activities will

    1. expand knowledge and awareness of AEA, its mission , and active use of the Guiding Principles for Evaluators, and lead to growth of the American Evaluation Association;
    2. provide heightened visibility for the evaluation profession;
    3. encourage diversity in the American Evaluation Association; and
    4. foster increased interest in the evaluation field .

    The deadline for proposal submissions is March 12, 2004. Information about the conference and submission guidelines can be found at http://www.eval.org/eval2004/.
